If i have to do clean installs on all PC’s i’m going to literally cry, Microsoft surely must offer an upgrade way. I suppose lets just sit and wait and deal with Microsoft’s Shit storm when clients mess it up. I’m sure Microsoft forget that us IT pro’s and partners get all the ear ache. Well since users on the domain won’t get the icon and be able to click anything we should be able to come up with a Plan. We don’t have SA, but I thought that was generally an Enterprise thing, and I was under the impression Pro machines qualify regardless of being home or business owned.

All of our systems came with a Pro COA, 7 and 8. Going by the upgrade offer, they should all qualify, but as noted they’re domain joined, and I wouldn’t want to in-place upgrade a bunch of office machines anyway.

I’ve always used the re-imaging rights granted by having a volume license, which lets you use that media and key on anything with a qualifying COA in my case, re-imaging with 7 Pro since they have 7 Pro and 8 Pro, they either have the same COA or are a downgrade.

If not, they still qualify for the upgrade since I could just disjoin the domain and upgrade, but that seems a stupid and unnecessary punishment. I’ve already caught him misinforming people and going back and making additional edits. There are still questions left unanswered read the additional pages in the FAQ I linked to. These unofficial FAQs including mine are created because we have received very little direction from Microsoft. The information we have to go from is based on personal experiences, Microsoft employee social media, and news outlets.

It would be very helpful if Microsoft would officially put an end to this instead of driving us all mad. I can’t tell you how much time I’ve invested the past couple of weeks to keep my FAQ here updated and accurate. Not to mention the time spent answering questions in other topics.

Great, there will be an ISO. Exactly how, when, and where can we get it? It’s only available for consumers, not for business. In business, you have different licensing agreements. That has to be nonsense, these machines come with standard windows end user licences even if they are the professional edition, my home PC and laptop are Pro and get the icon. Mike wrote: Only the Enterprise versions will not have the free upgrade offer.

Active Software Assurance customers in volume licensing have the benefit to upgrade to Windows 10 enterprise offerings outside of this offer. Chris, any chance you have any info on the question I was asking earlier? Sort of looks like the “get current” image you posted may apply, but wasn’t sure. Regarding RT, isn’t it getting a not, better-than-8 upgrade of sorts? I don’t use RT so haven’t really paid attention, but thought that was what I read.

Too bad, but since I don’t use RT, I’m more interested in the reimaging question anyway : It’s probably another of those things that hasn’t been sorted out yet but that doesn’t stop my being curious.

For the most part, these remnants may not cause any issues, until they accumulate over time. Developed with precision and accuracy, Registry Cleaner ensures that all duplicate, invalid, and orphaned entries are removed, keeping your registry lean and errors at bay. You will note that there is a Back Up Changes option, which is already checked by default. This is meant to make it safer for you so that you can easily undo the changes if the computer starts to act up. It is advisable to run the Registry Cleaner every once in a while to ensure that your Windows Registry is clean and healthy.

Peter Gichuki 08 September – 7 min read. Once again, hit the back arrow to go back to language preferences. From here, you can click in the left-hand pane Change date, time, or number formats, and make sure the format is set to the correct language.

On the Location tab, take a look at Home location, and then utilise the Administrative tab to check the System locale. Here, hit Copy settings to apply the setting to the new user accounts and Welcome screen. The only way to get around this is to open up Internet Explorer 11, which you will find is still included in Windows 10, and save from there once the web page has opened. To do this, navigate to the menu on the far right-hand side of the Edge window.

Select the open with Internet Explorer option. This will open your current web page in a new tab in IE. While this is aesthetically pleasing, it can sometimes be an extra hurdle to accessing your device and logging in. After a reboot, the lock screen will be gone. Under “Block pop-ups” make sure this is set to “On”. Microsoft has used hybrid boot in Windows 10 to cut down start-up times, as it did in its predecessor, Windows 8. All processes are normally closed when you shut down your machine but the Windows kernel hibernates so your machine can restart much quicker.

This might sound useful but can still be too slow for many IT professionals. It’s possible to disable hybrid boot by going to the Start Menu and finding Power Options.

Next, run the Control Panel applet in the left-hand window pane and find Choose what power buttons do. You should choose Change settings that are currently unavailable, before scrolling down and deselecting Turn on fast start-up. Finally, save your changes. This should prevent PCs from booting up so slowly. Some report that they can completely fix the problem by re-enabling fast-startup.

After making these changes and disabling the feature, reboot the system and repeat the process. She does not want to have to login to the laptop every time she want to use it, so she understands that she did not set up a password for access.

Total confusion all around. Before we discovered this, I tried to set up a Windows 10 Mail account using her own domain email and I could not work out how to get incoming server to work, using correct protocols in place?

Option to allow exceptions access in Firewall was greyed out. Disabled McFee — no change. I and with Retirebri here, particularly for older users used to years and years of easy access and no MS account to confuse them. I hope MS are listening, and stores who sell laptops to the domestic market. Fantastic article and thank you for sharing the idiosyncrasies about Windows Late last year, I purchased a new windows 10 desktop and using various guides, and even being connected to the Internet, I somehow managed to get an Admin account without a Microsoft account.

However, when I installed a licensed copy of Office student edition Excel Word and PowerPoint and used the product key provided, Microsoft did not seem to accept the product key. The product worked okay so I put it down to a glitch. Having investigated further, appears that you have to have a Microsoft account to link the Office product with the computer.

Has anyone else come across this problem? She could not set up the account to get it started and even the guys at Dell could not help after 2 hours on the phone. We were about ready to give up and send the computer back for a refund when I tried to get it started using my Microsoft account. I had set it up on my laptop a couple of years ago without problem. So far, so good but do not know if it will present a future problem. No way will Microsoft get even a penny out of me on the account.

I used my work microsoft account, not realising what was about to happen. I cannot log in as a local user. I can create one, but that user does not show up when starting up. I just want to log in as a local administrator account. It goes on about bitlocker recovery — what even is that. Is there any way? Or do I need to re-install windows? This is a waste of life.

I truly deeply hate the people who work for Microsoft with every fiber of my being. How do they even sleep at night knowing what pathetic scum they are? Not all employees are using the pimping-out our rights-to-privacy guidebook.

I walked right into this one with an added problem. I am already part of an Office account via my work, so every time I now try to open any Office package it links to my work account not my personal account and I do not seem to be able to break free. The additional problem is that anything I do on my home laptop defaults to saving to the One Cloud, but not my personal one, the corporate one. This means that my employer gets a copy of all my family photos and any letters I write which may be about my employer!

This is great for work stuff but not for anything I want to keep for myself and my family. Not having read this piece until too late, and encountering these problems, I ended up buying a separate version of Office that does not force me to save to OneDrive, but I have to keep downloading it as the laptop keeps defaulting back to the Office versions of all the software. Despite the fact that even two weeks on I still cannot effectively use my laptop, I am very resentful of a US company trying to shape my life and how it is lived.

I am bitter at all the useless apps it shovels at me, that have no relevance to my life and yet I struggle to open Word and use it in a normal way. Brilliant … I jsut want to be able to specify where One Drive is located without all the faff of having to unlink and relink the account. Also now Ive read this I realise thats why I havnt been able to set up an admin account!!

So a massive thankyou!! Thanks for the tip, and a big middle finger to Microsoft for creating this mess in the first place. So glad I found this advice! Very easy after that and everything is working fine. I am so damn tired of this BS! I just want to have a running computer to show the customer. I would assume that if you wanted to get it ready for a customer so they could see it as a working computer you should work on it in Audit mode instead of going through the OOBE out of the box experience.

If you reset the PC and set up a local account, you can do it without a password — just leave the password field blank. User Profile Wizard 24 is the latest version of ForensiT’s powerful workstation migration tool. Attackers use whatever they can for privilege escalations and exfiltration. If an attacker got hold of a computer with ADUC installed, they could just change passwords and access rights at will.
